About Me

An English native, I have lived and worked in Canada, Scotland, Japan, and Slovenia, and I’m currently based in southern Austria.

My business growth story began in 2008 when I took a job with a (then) unknown Scottish travel site called Skyscanner.

As one of the early team (employee #9) I became part of the explosive growth that Skyscanner experienced over nine years, cumulating in a globally known unicorn with millions of users that was sold for $1.7 billion.

I lived the growth success story and know how to take an idea, test it, iterate it, and grow it.

Adventures in Silicon Valley

After leaving Skyscanner I saw an opportunity to grow my father’s speaking hobby into something much bigger.

Using growth techniques I’d learned during my time at Skyscanner, I took my father from presenting at village halls in England, to giving his Enigma talks and demos at the HQs of Silicon Valley’s tech darlings including: Facebook, PayPal, Dropbox, Yahoo!, Slack and many more. Inspiring Apparel

Alongside helping others to realise their business ideas and grow their startups, I continue to practise what I preach.

In 2020, I founded BREG – Slovenia-inspired Apparel. Since launch, the BREG brand has captured the attention of Slovenia’s media and been featured on national TV, in the newspaper and on radio, and continues to grow.

My Written Work

I’m also a published author (see my travel memoirs: Dormice & Moonshine; Falling for Slovenia (2024), and For Fukui’s Sake; Two years in rural Japan (2011), writer of over 100 published articles in magazines, guidebooks and newspapers including The Times and The Guardian; a documenter of Life in Slovenia, and a monthly contributor to 3 Seas Europe. The Now

I currently live in Austria, but have worked with businesses and founders all over the world including: Japan (where I lived for two years), Spain, Switzerland, Hungary, Slovenia, and the UK.

I specialise in content and growth marketing for small businesses and startups, especially tech businesses and online operations.

However, the same growth playbook can be used for most types of business because almost every business will benefit from the principals of growth marketing.
